I acquired my first camera from a McDonalds Happy Meal when I seven. I still have it. It’s neon yellow. I remembered how excited I was, I spent days documenting the details of our family farm. The flowers, the pets, the blades of grass, I wanted to capture them all.
As an adult, I am still interested in landscape photography. I want to document the details of the world around me, the little things you might miss if you’re not paying attention.
A recent surfing adventure called for long days on the beach. I loved the patterns in the sand drawn by the waves, each one existing only until the next swell. Beautiful, unique moments.
One of the perks of working as a housekeeper for a Heli Ski Lodge is the occasional lift into the alpine. I can’t put into word the how it feels to be alone on a mountain top in the dead of winter. Hopefully the images speak for themselves.
Endangered Boundaries is a series of photographs taken during my final semester at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Photographed with a large format film camera, the series documents where fertile soil of the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia meets the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the farmland is below seal level, protected from the tides by dykes established in the 1600’s. Rising sea levels from global warming threatens these boundaries.
